    FAQs

What is the difference between a 15kg and a 20kg Olympic barbell?
A 20 kg Olympic bar is the standard used in men’s weightlifting and powerlifting, typically measuring 28–29 mm in shaft diameter with higher load capacity. A 15 kg bar is slightly shorter and thinner (around 25 mm), designed for women’s Olympic lifting or lifters who prefer a lighter, more manageable bar with the same sleeve diameter for Olympic plates.

Do I need bushings or bearings?
Bars with bushings provide smooth, controlled sleeve spin that excels for powerlifting and general strength work. Bars with needle bearings deliver faster rotation, making them better suited for Olympic lifts like snatches and cleans.

    Can I drop Olympic barbells?
Only certain Olympic bars are designed to be dropped, and this depends on their construction, bearings and warranty conditions. Bars built for Olympic lifting with needle bearings and suitable tensile strength can typically be dropped when used with proper bumper plates and lifting platforms. However, general-purpose or power bars with bushings may not be covered for repeated drops. Always check the product specifications and warranty terms before dropping any barbell.

What’s the difference between light commercial and full commercial Olympic bars?
Light commercial bars offer a balance of durability and accessibility, making them ideal for busy home gyms or boutique facilities, more suitable for low-volume use. Full commercial bars are built to withstand heavy daily use and repeated drops, with reinforced sleeves and higher load capacities for serious training environments. If you’ve trained in a commercial gym, chances are you used a commercial bar.

Which speciality bar could I use for my training goals?
Speciality bars such as safety squat bars, EZ curl bars, trap/hex bars, and Swiss bars are designed to meet specific training needs — from reducing shoulder strain to providing safer deadlift variations or simply adding variety to your routine. The right speciality bar depends on your individual training goals and the movements you want to prioritise.
