Plate Loaded Machines

14 products

Plate loaded machines use weight plates rather than a built-in weight stack to add resistance, allowing you to load resistance manually using the same Olympic plates used throughout the rest of your gym. You load what you need, strip it back between sets, and progress at exactly the increments your training requires. Plate loaded machines work with the Olympic plates you already own, making them a practical addition to any gym running a barbell and plate setup.

Since 2009, Little Bloke Fitness has supplied Australian gyms with plate loaded strength equipment built for heavy use.Our range includes Smith Machines, leg press and hack squat machines, hip thrust stations, calf raise machines, leverage machines and other plate loaded strength equipment across standalone, rack-integrated and combo configurations. .

    Why choose plate loaded machines?

Plate loaded machines give you the mechanical advantages of machine-based training - controlled movement paths, greater stability under load, and the ability to train heavy without relying on a spotter  - while using standard Olympic weight plates. Your existing plate collection works across both your barbell lifts and your plate loaded machines.

The load adjustment is manual - you load and strip plates between sets. For some training styles that's a non-issue; for others, the speed of a pin loaded weight stack matters more. Both types have their place in a gym setup.

Our range includes everything from compact plate-loaded machines through to heavy-duty commercial units, covering lower body, hip, calf and guided barbell training. Whether you're adding a single machine to a home gym or building a complete strength area, plate-loaded equipment offers a practical way to expand your training without investing in multiple weight stack systems.

    Perfect for:

    • Heavy strength training with standard Olympic weight plates

    • Gyms already running a barbell and plate setup where plates serve double duty

    • Movements where machine control and constant tension matter - calf raise, hip thrust, leg press, and guided barbell work

    • Training environments where manual load management and plate-based progression are standard practice

    • Adding targeted machine work without investing in separate weight stack systems

    Plate loaded machine FAQs

Plate loaded machines use external Olympic weight plates loaded manually onto a peg or sleeve. Pin loaded machines use an integrated weight stack with a selector pin to change resistance between sets. Each type has practical advantages depending on your setup, training style, and existing equipment - our team can talk you through both options.

Yes. All plate loaded machines in our range use 50mm Olympic bar/sleeve sizing, which is the standard for commercial and home gym plates in Australia. Standard 25mm (non-Olympic) plates are not compatible.

Load capacity varies by machine. Contact us for specific weight ratings for any machine in the range before purchasing.

Yes. Plate loaded machines are particularly popular in home gyms because they use the same Olympic plates as your barbells and other equipment. This allows one set of plates to be used across multiple pieces of equipment without investing in separate weight stack machines.
