Fixed Barbells

Fixed barbells combine a bar and weight into a single ready-to-use piece of equipment. There are no plates to load and no collars to adjust - simply select the weight you need and start training, making fixed barbells particularly useful for curls, presses, rows and other exercises where fast weight changes are useful.
Our 1RM Fixed Barbell range uses cast polyurethane (CPU) heads with a durable commercial finish, paired with fixed straight and EZ-style bars. Available across multiple weights, they are well suited to commercial gyms, PT studios, schools, sporting facilities and home gyms wanting a dedicated fixed-weight barbell range.
Since 2009, Little Bloke Fitness has supplied Australian home gym owners, PT studios and commercial facilities with strength equipment built for long-term use. Our fixed barbell range is available to view in our Melbourne showroom and ships Australia wide.

Fixed barbells remove the need to load and unload weight plates between exercises or sets. Each bar has a set weight, making it quick to move between different loads and particularly practical for supersets, drop sets, group training and busy gym floors where several people may be training at the same time.
Straight fixed barbells are useful across curls, rows, presses, raises and other strength exercises, while EZ fixed barbells use an angled grip that provides another hand position for curls, tricep exercises and accessory work.
Our CPU fixed barbells use cast polyurethane heads designed for regular use in commercial training environments. CPU provides a durable, easy-to-clean outer surface with lower odour and good resistance to scuffing and marking, while clearly marked weight identification makes it easy to find the bar you need from the rack.

What is a fixed barbell?
A fixed barbell has the weight permanently attached to the bar rather than using removable weight plates. Each bar has a set weight, so you simply choose the bar you need rather than loading plates and fitting collars before each exercise.
What's the difference between a fixed barbell and an Olympic barbell?
A fixed barbell has a predetermined weight that cannot be changed. An Olympic barbell has rotating sleeves that accept removable Olympic weight plates, allowing you to change the total load.
Fixed barbells are quicker to use when you regularly move between different weights, while an Olympic barbell provides much greater flexibility for heavier loading and exercises where the required weight changes significantly.
What's the difference between a straight and EZ fixed barbell?
A straight fixed barbell uses a straight shaft and gives you a consistent hand position across the bar. An EZ fixed barbell uses angled grip sections that provide different hand positions for exercises such as curls and tricep work.
Neither is inherently better - the right option depends on the exercise and the grip position you prefer.
What does CPU mean?
CPU stands for Cast Polyurethane. It is commonly used on higher-end commercial dumbbells and fixed barbells because it provides a durable outer surface with good resistance to wear, lower odour than many traditional rubber products and an easy-to-clean finish.
Why choose fixed barbells instead of loading a bar with plates?
Fixed barbells are primarily about convenience and speed. There are no plates or collars to change, making it easy to move between weights during supersets, drop sets, circuits or multi-user training.
A loadable Olympic barbell remains the better option when you need a much wider weight range or heavier loads, so many commercial gyms use both.
Are fixed barbells suitable for commercial gyms?
Yes. Fixed barbells are particularly useful in commercial gyms, PT studios, schools and sporting facilities where equipment needs to be quick to select and easy for multiple users to share. The CPU construction also makes them well suited to regular use in high-traffic free-weight areas.
How should fixed barbells be stored?
Fixed barbells are best stored on a dedicated fixed-barbell rack that supports each bar individually and keeps the weight range organised. This makes it quicker to find the required weight while keeping bars off the training floor.
Whether you're adding a small fixed barbell range to a home gym or building a complete commercial free-weight area, we can help you choose the right weights, bar styles and storage setup.
