Slam balls

Slam balls are non-bouncing weighted medicine balls, built for high-impact overhead slams, explosive throws, and dynamic full-body conditioning work. Unlike wall balls or traditional medicine balls, slam balls are covered in thick, textured rubber with a loose sand fill, built to absorb force on impact, limiting bounce and keeping the ball close to the ground after each rep without bouncing or rolling. This makes them ideal for explosive overhead slams, rotational throws and high-intensity conditioning sessions.

Since 2009, Little Bloke Fitness has supplied Australian gyms with functional training equipment built to handle daily use. Our 360 Strength slam balls feature ultra-strong rubber casings, recessed valve designs, and deep textured surfaces engineered for high-volume gym environments and repeated impacts.

    Why use slam balls?

Slam balls (also known as dead balls) are specifically designed for throwing exercises where rebound would be dangerous or disruptive. Unlike medicine balls or wall balls, slam balls stay dead on impact, allowing you to train with maximum force without chasing the ball or worrying about unpredictable rebounds.

    A well-built slam ball should:

    • Absorb impact without bouncing or rolling

    • Maintain shape through repeated high-velocity slams

    • Offer secure grip even when hands are sweaty or chalked

    • Protect floors and training surfaces from damage

    Perfect for:

    • Overhead slams and explosive power development

    • Partner throws and reaction drills

    • Conditioning circuits and interval training

    • Solo training where bounce-back would be unsafe

    • High-intensity group classes and metabolic conditioning

Slam balls can also be used for loaded squats, lunges, carries and rotational work, adding dynamic resistance to traditional bodyweight movements.

    Features of our slam balls

Our 360 Strength slam balls are built for durability and daily use:

    • Ultra-strong, thick durable rubber casing that withstands high-impact slams

    • Deep textured surface for secure grip during fatigued sets

    • Recessed valve design that won't interfere with handling or damage with direct impact

    • Loose sand and iron filing fill that creates dead weight without bounce

    • Clear weight markings

    • Available in weights from 3kg through to 50kg

Important: To preserve longevity, slam balls should only be used on suitable surfaces such as gym tiles, EVA jigsaw mats, or stall mats. Slamming on concrete, bitumen, or abrasive surfaces will damage the ball and void warranty coverage.

    Slam ball FAQs

What's the difference between a slam ball, medicine ball, and wall ball?

Slam balls (dead balls) have thick rubber shells and loose sand fill designed for high-impact slams without bouncing. Medicine balls are typically smaller and firmer, suited for partner throws and controlled rebounds. Wall balls are larger and softer, built specifically for high-rep target throws and squat-based conditioning.

What weight should I start with?

Most people start with 6–12kg for overhead slams and power work although it varies according to fitness levels. Lighter balls (3–6kg) suit technique development and higher-rep conditioning. Heavier balls (15kg+) are used for slower, strength-focused movements and advanced training.

Can I use slam balls outdoors?

Yes, slam balls are weather-proof and can be used outdoors. However, they should only be slammed on appropriate surfaces like rubber gym tiles or mats, never on concrete, bitumen, or abrasive ground.

How long do slam balls last?

With proper use on suitable surfaces, quality slam balls can last years. Avoid slamming on sharp surfaces, concrete, or directly on the valve side. Regular inspection and correct surface usage extends lifespan significantly.
