Kettlebells are solid metal cannonball shaped weights with handles and a flat bottom so they can be placed on a flat surface. They have gained momentum as a popular training tool due to their ability to contribute to both strength training and cardiovascular (aerobic) training, making them great for a full body fitness regime.
A kettlebell can come in a variety of styles (we stock classic and pro-grade) and range in weight from 4kg through to 40kg. It is recommended that men begin with a 16KG kettlebell and women begin with the 8KG, although this can vary from person to person.
Whilst a kettlebell can be used for most of the same exercises that dumbbells are used for, they do offer an additional level of flexibility due to their handles. Incorporating them into circuit training and exercises that focus on core strength and cross functional movement, such as kettlebell swings, is a great way to build overall physical strength and balance. These workouts are so effective and kettlebells have such functional benefits that many gyms and personal trainers offer workouts and programs based solely on kettlebell training.
Kettlebells come in a range of different weights and at Little Bloke Fitness we stock kettlebells from 4kg up to 40kg.
Classic or Pro-grade?
At Little Bloke Fitness, we stock the two styles of kettlebell we believe are the hardiest and best value for money – classic cast iron kettlebells and pro-grade steel kettlebells. Both of these styles come in the full weight range so you can rest assured that all levels of lifter are catered for.
Classic kettlebells are made from painted cast iron, and increase in bell size and handle size as the weight increases. This makes the 4kg tiny, and the 40kg quite a bit larger. This means that you may need to adjust your technique as you increase the weight of your kettlebells. These tend to be more popular as they are considerably cheaper than pro-grade kettlebells and are a great place to start if you’re new to kettlebell training.
Pro-grade kettlebells (also known as competition or professional kettlebells) are made from steel, are more precise in their weight, and are uniform in size and shape as their weight increases. This means the 8kg kettlebell is the same bell and handle size as the 32kg kettlebell. However, some of the more regular lifters and competitive athletes prefer to use Pro Grade kettlebells. If you plan on using them regularly, knocking out some long sets, or even competing, then you can’t go past the pro-grade style.
