Dumbbell handles come in two main sizes (like barbells - size referring to the thickness of the shaft rather than its length).
Standard sized dumbbell handles are more common than Olympic sized dumbbell handles. The thickness of standard handles varies from 25mm through to 28mm, with different collar styles and lengths available as well. Better priced than olympic sized equipment, they will suit most everyday lifters.
Olympic sized dumbbells have a much thicker shaft than standard barbells. They typically will have a rotating end, weigh more and tend to be sturdier than a standard sized dumbbell. Subsequently – they generally cost more. With the extra strength, these bars are more suited to the serious lifters.
